Call of Duty Vanguard beta has so far garnered a mixed response from players
The
Call of Duty: Vanguard beta's second weekend kicked off last Thursday, with the beta going fully open on Saturday on all platforms. Given that players who did not pre-order the game only had two days to play, Activision decided to give everyone a little more time.
The game's Twitter announced: "The Vanguard open beta has been extended until Wednesday Sept 22 at 10am PT." That's 6pm for us, UKmaniacs.
The beta packs four maps and a variety of deathmatch and objective modes, including the new Patrol mode. Hitting level 20 in the beta will get you a 'Rat-a-Tat' weapon blueprint in Vanguard and Warzone, too.
The second Vanguard beta is specifically geared toward testing out crossplay, but will limit the first few days to players with preorder access on Xbox and PC. PlayStation players will have free, unlimited access to the entire second weekend of the beta.
-
Early Access (Xbox One and PC preorders only): Sept. 16-17
-
Open Beta (PlayStation, all players): Sept. 16-22
-
Open Beta (Xbox and PC, all players): Sept. 18-22
Both beta weekends are expected to begin at 10 a.m. PDT/1 p.m. EDT/7 p.m. CEST/6 p.m. BST on their respective days. As always, there's the potential for last-minute issues or delays.
The Vanguard open beta is home to various game modes, though most of them are already known quantities to the Call of Duty community. Returning modes from previous games include Search & Destroy, Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Kill Confirmed. The new mode available in the open beta is called Patrol, and that will have you working with your team to capture and hold a moving zone of control to earn points.
The Vanguard beta has so far garnered a mixed response from players, often for similar reasons. Many likened it to a WW2 reskin of Modern Warfare 2019. Your reaction to that observation depends on what you thought of Infinity Ward's game.
Numbers, however, have not been very encouraging. The game has consistently failed to break into Twitch's top five, and there's a lot of chatter online about cheaters already ruining games.
Call of Duty: Vanguard is out on November 5th for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
